JAKARTA, Indonesia: Indonesian police have retrieved the bodies of three crew members from a plane that crashed in restive Papua province last week, a report said.

The Aviastar Twin Otter was flying from Dekay to the highland town of Wamena when it lost contact with air-traffic control and went missing last Monday, news agency Antara reported.

"The three bodies have been successfully evacuated and are now at the hospital in Wamena for an autopsy," district police chief Ritonga was quoted as saying.

Rescue operations had been delayed due to bad weather and the bodies were only recovered Saturday, the report said.

Indonesia, which relies heavily on air links across the archipelago, has one of Asia's worst air safety records.
