JAKARTA: A 5.7-magnitude quake hit Indonesia's remote Papua province Sunday, but there were no immediate reports of any casualties or damage.

The quake struck at 9:58 am (0258 GMT) with an epicentre 156 kilometres (97 miles) southeast of the West Papua district of Kaimana, the Jakarta Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said.

It was measured at a depth of 10 kilometres but no tsunami warning was immediately issued.

Indonesia sits on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.
