TOKYO: Sanyo Electric Co. will supply nickel-metal hydride batteries for PSA Peugeot Citroen Group's diesel-electric hybrid cars starting in 2011, a report said on Sunday.

Sanyo and Peugeot Citroen have agreed that Sanyo will ship batteries for several tens of thousands of cars per year, the Japanese business daily Nikkei reported, without revealing its sources.

The batteries will be used in the Peugeot 3008 sports utility vehicle and the Citroen DS5 luxury car, models the group plans to roll out in 2011, it said.

Sanyo supplies nickel-metal hybrid batteries for Honda Motor Co.'s Insight hybrid and Ford Motor Co.'s hybrids, and is expected to supply lithium ion batteries to the Volkswagen Group and Toyota Motor Corp, it said.
