TAIPEI : Taiwan does not want to concentrate all its exports in the China and Hong Kong markets, and hopes to expand its trade with other parts of the world, Premier Wu Den-yih said Tuesday.
"We rely on the China and Hong Kong market for 40 percent of our exports, and we think it's a very high level," Wu told reporters in Taipei.
"We don't want to concentrate our exports (in one market) and hope to expand our economic and trade exchanges throughout the world."
Wu's Beijing-friendly Cabinet is pushing for a pact with China, known as the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement, which it says will boost employment in Taiwan.
The opposition, which wants formal independence from the mainland, has warned that the agreement could lead to greater reliance on China.
"We want to do more business with Europe, with other parts of Asia, including Japan, South Korea, Southeast Asia, as well as the United States, Canada and Australia," Wu said.
