WASHINGTON : US aerospace giant Boeing said on Tuesday it has won an order from Indonesian budget airline Lion Air for 22 single-aisle 737s, in a deal valued at more than 1.7 billion dollars at list prices.

The Boeing Company said it was confirming a previously unidentified Lion Air order for 22 Next-Generation 737-900ER (Extended Range) airplanes that had been placed during the second quarter of 2007.

The order brings Jakarta-based Lion Air's combined orders for the 737-900ER to 122, the US company said.

Boeing launched the 737-900ER programme in July 2005 with Lion Air announcing the initial order for 30. Lion Air ordered an additional 40 of the aircraft at the Paris Air Show in June.

The 737-900ER have a maximum capacity of 220 passengers in a single-class layout. The fuel-efficient planes have a range of 5,900 kilometres, Boeing said. - AFP/de
