BANGKOK - Thai share prices fell 1.94 per cent as the market opened Tuesday, three hours after the government declared a state of emergency in Bangkok following deadly clashes among protesters overnight.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand composite index lost 13.10 points to 662.12 in the first minutes of trading. The blue-chip SET-50 lost 10.71 points to 467.34.

Prime Minister Samak Sundaravej declared the state of emergency early Tuesday, after one person died and 44 were injured in clashes between his supporters and activists demanding his resignation.
