Singapore shares close 0.72% lower

SINGAPORE - Singapore shares closed 0.72 percent lower Wednesday on concerns over corporate earnings results, dealers said.

The blue-chip Straits Times Index fell 19.91 points to 2,745.04. Overall volume was 1.47 billion shares worth S$1.33b. There were 146 gainers and 293 losers.

Banks were lower, with DBS falling 12 cents to S$14.58, United Overseas Bank dropping 28 cents to S$19.38 and Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp ending nine cents lower at S$8.36.

Property developer CapitaLand was off three cents to S$4.10 and Singapore Telecommunications dipped five cents to S$2.92. Singapore Airlines closed two cents higher at S$14.14.
