SINGAPORE - Singapore shares rose 0.46 per cent on Wednesday but investors remained cautious over the medium-term outlook, dealers said.
The blue-chip Straits Times Index closed 12.86 points firmer at 2,792.84.
Volume traded totalled 1.35 billion shares worth S$1.71 billion and there were 216 gainers, 188 losers, while 928 issues were unchanged.
"There's not much interest from retail investors," said a dealer at a local brokerage. "Participation is mainly by the funds. Even then, they're only dabbling."
Commodity-related stocks were the exceptions with most of them finishing higher.
These include Noble Group which gained 12 cents to S$3.02, Olam International up eight cents to S$2.69 and Straits Asia Resources six cents firmer at S$2.29.
Among blue chips, Singapore Airlines eased 10 cents to S$13.68 and Singapore Telecommunications dropped two cents to S$2.94.
