SINGAPORE : Noh Alam Shah scored an astonishing seven goals as Singapore crushed Laos 11-0 while a late strike saved Indonesia's blushes against Vietnam in the Asean Football Championship on Monday.

Laos were humiliated by the defending champions at the National Stadium, going to the break three down before giving up in the second half.

Shah grabbed two goals in the first period before bagging another three in a five minute burst in the second half, wrapping it up with another two in the final minutes.

Muhammad Ridhuan, Shahril Ishak, Khairul Amri and Itimi Dickson also got on the scoresheet.

In the night's other match, Peter Withe's Indonesia salvaged a 1-1 draw against Vietnam.

Striker Saktiawan Sinaga slammed in his second goal of the competition in the 90th minute, cancelling out an own goal by Supardi 10 minutes before half-time.

It was no more than they deserved and sets them up for their final game against Singapore on Wednesday with a semi-final slot now firmly in their sights.

Indonesia, beaten by Singapore in the final of the last tournament in 2004, are second in Group B with four points, behind Singapore on goal difference. Vietnam have two points and group whipping boys Laos none.

Only the top two teams from the two groups of four progress to the home and away semi-finals on January 23-24 and January 27-28.

Vietnam must now beat Laos on Wednesday then chew their fingernails while Indonesia and Singapore play each other to determine the outcome of the group.

The championship, being played in Bangkok and Singapore, was formerly known as the Tiger Cup. - AFP/de
