CLEVELAND, Ohio: The Cleveland Browns' stuttering offense exploded in a 35-14 thrashing of the New York Giants, handing the Super Bowl champions their first defeat of the National Football League season.

Derek Anderson threw for 310 yards and two touchdowns for the Browns, who had won just one of their first four games thanks largely to the struggles of Anderson and wide receiver Braylon Edwards.

Despite the absence of tight end Kellen Winslow due to an undisclosed injury, the Browns came out firing on Monday.

Anderson's 49-yard pass to Edwards on the opening drive set up a 28-yard field goal by Phil Dawson.

Anderson also connected with the Pro Bowl receiver on a 70-yard pass play in the second quarter which led to a 4-yard scoring run by Jamal Lewis for a 10-7 lead.

Edwards, who finished with five receptions for 154 yards, caught an 11-yard touchdown at the start of the fourth quarter for a 27-14 lead.

Giants quarterback Eli Manning struggled, throwing for just 196 yards with three interceptions.

Prior to the contest the Giants had turned the ball over just once this season.
