MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota: LeBron James scored 24 points, grabbed nine rebounds and dished out six assists as the Cleveland Cavaliers won their first game of the season 104-87 over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Mo Williams scored 20 points for Cleveland, who moved to 1-2 on the National Basketball Association season. Zydrunas Ilgauskas had 15 points and Daniel Gibson 14 in the win. Giant centre Shaquille O'Neal had seven rebounds, six points and three block shots.

"I think it's good that we keep playing a lot of games," said Ilgauskas. "We get a chance to fix things on the floor. We're right where we need to be offensively and defensively."

Jonny Flynn scored 17 points for Minnesota, which dropped to 1-1. Al Jefferson had 12 points and eight rebounds, while Corey Brewer scored 11 points.

Cleveland was ahead 25-18 after the first quarter and increased their lead to 57-47 at halftime. Varejao's finger roll and Jamario Moon's layup gave the Cavs a 78-61 lead late in the third.
