OSLO: Switzerland's Simon Ammann ended the World Cup season in style on Sunday, winning the final event two days after securing the overall title in Lillehammer.

Ammann is the first Swiss ski jumper to win the World Cup and caps an historic season when he became the first man to win four individual Olympic titles having also clinched double gold at Salt Lake City in 2002.

This was the 28-year-old's ninth World Cup win of the season and it came on the new jump at Holmenkollen for his seventh consecutive triumph.

Ammann prevailed with jumps of 135.5m and 124.5m for a total of 267.7 points.

In second came Poland's Adam Malysz while Andreas Kofler of Austria took third.

Kofler's compatriot, the outgoing world number one Gregor Schlierenzauer, finished in 12th to secure second in the overall standings.

Ammann now has his sights on another title at the season-ending world championships at Planica in Slovenia from March 20-22. - AFP/de
