BERLIN : Defending champion Ana Ivanovic made it to the semi-finals of the German Open here on Saturday when she beat tenth seeded Hungarian Agnes Szavay.

After their quarter-final was halted on Friday night due to the falling darkness with both players having taken a set, Ivanovic took the third set to claim a 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win.

In Saturday afternoon's semi-final, the world number two faces Russian Elena Dementieva, who beat Jelena Jankovic in Friday's quarter-final.

The other semi-final pits Victoria Azarenka from Belarus up against Russian Dinara Safina, who beat top seed Justine Henin and former world number one Serena Williams earlier in the week.
