KIEV - The United States is committed to new and positive relations with Russia, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in Ukraine on Friday, after fears a spy scandal could harm improving ties.

"We're committed to building a new and positive relation with Russia. We're looking toward the future," said Clinton, while declining to comment on the investigation into an alleged Russian spy ring in the United States.

Clinton's comments were her first statement on the scandal which officials in Russia and the United States have been at pains to emphasize will not hurt a reset in ties between the former Cold War foes.
