WASHINGTON: Two people were killed and another two were critically wounded in a shooting at a Kraft factory in Philadelphia, police said late Thursday, adding a female suspect had been taken into custody.

"We have two confirmed dead, two critically injured and the assailant has been apprehended," said Wilfred Frederick, a police officer with Philadelphia's Seventh District.

The shooting happened around 9:00 pm (0100 GMT), Frederick told AFP. No details on the victims was immediately available, and there was no information about the motive for the shooting.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported the female shooter was taken into custody by SWAT officers after a standoff on the second floor of the factory.

About 100 workers were in the building when the shooting started, the newspaper said. Some employees reportedly took refuge inside a quality-control room.

The newspaper said the woman fired a single shot at three police officers, who did not return fire, but had also dialled 911 and was talking to police before her arrest.
