Strong quake hits Uzbekistan

MOSCOW - A powerful earthquake rocked mountainous southeast Uzbekistan overnight, the RIA Novosti news agency reported Tuesday quoting emergency ministry officials.

Tremors of up to 8.0 on the Richter scale were registered some 200 kilometres (120 miles) southeast of Tashkent, officials said. No casualties or damage were reported. - AFP/ir
