NEW YORK - One of the 49 people killed in the fiery plane crash in New York state on Friday was a widow whose husband was killed in the September 11 attacks, a local newspaper reported.
Beverly Eckert was travelling to Buffalo to celebrate what would have been her husband, Sean Rooney's, 58th birthday, the Buffalo News reported.
"We know she was on that plane," her sister Sue Bourque told the paper, "and now she's with him."
Eckert was due to attend the presentation of a scholarship in Rooney's name at the high school where the two met.
She later served as co-chair of the Voices of Sept. 11 which pushed for better investigation of the attacks and a permanent memorial.
The paper said families of the victims had been moved into an airport lounge and offered consolation, but no confirmation of their loved one's death.
"We know they're dead. Why can't they just tell us or take us to ID them," said one grieving man who declined to give his name.
