WASHINGTON - US President Barack Obama on Friday pledged to reverse many Bush administration policies seen by Democrats and the labour movement as curtailing the power of trade unions.

Obama said that he believed "we have to reverse many of the policies towards organized labor that we have seen these last eight years."

Saying he sharply disagreed with many Bush policies, he added, before signing several measures rolling back restrictions on organized labor, "I do not view the labor movement as part of the problem.

"To me, it's part of the solution."
