WASHINGTON - The White House on Friday called a jump in US unemployment figures "unwelcome" but said it was not considering a second economic stimulus package for now.

"We don't think that we need to consider a second stimulus right now," spokeswoman Dana Perino said after US unemployment jumped to a five-year high of 6.1 percent, with 84,000 jobs slashed in August according to official data.
