SINGAPORE : This year's Singapore JewelFest is all about falling in love.

The 10-day event celebrates its 7th anniversary with the theme "Renaissance of Love".

"It's through the appreciation of love that we thought that it could be something that's linked to the appreciation of jewellery, and as a gift to the loved ones around us," said Joseph Fong, chairperson of JewelFest 2009.

And adding some sparkle to the event are over $120 million worth of fine jewellery from 36 brands worldwide.

The most expensive piece - "Grandiosa" by Goldheart Jewellery - is tagged at a whopping $6.4 million, while the more affordable pieces which start from as low as $500.

Pieces inspired by love for family members and friends, as well as wedding jewellery dominate the event. This includes the third collection by renowned designer Wkyidd Song, who said it's inspired by life's natural progression.

"A man buys a certain jewellery for his girlfriend and then... to an engagement ring and then finally, the wedding collection or wedding jewellery," said fashion designer Wkyidd Song from Wk Design.

The JewelFest will be on at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza from October 9-18. - CNA /ls
