OSAKA : In Japan, pets are becoming more than man's best friend, with some owners going to extremes to pamper their dogs.
For example, pet owners can leave their little one with the staff of Dog Hotel Felice, and their pets will get tender loving care.
Room rates start from around US$70 a night.
And for those who have spare cash, there is also a suite for a little over US$200.
Dog Hotel Felice is adjacent to one of Osaka's top luxury hotels, Rhiga Royal, so many of the customers are the hotel guests.
To cater to their every need, trendy pet products are also sold.
Sakiko Takemoto, Shopkeeper, Dog Hotel Felice, said, "You can select the stone for one of these glittering collars and have your dog's name engraved on it. The collars can be converted to necklaces and they're very popular."
Ms Takemoto claims their warm looking overcoats suit dogs of any colour this season.
The popular toy dogs tend not to be taken out for walks during the harsh Osaka winter.
But the little guests get plenty of action indoors even though they are not allowed to mingle with pets of other families.
What is most outstanding about the place is that it is kept sparkling clean.
Ms Takemoto said, "In the past, it was considered normal for dogs to have an odour. Today, they're treated like real children. Will you keep your children in a smelly place? "
The place has been fully booked, so owners can bring their pets after the New Year holidays. - CNA/ms
