TAIPEI : It's one of the biggest jackpots in Taiwan, and one mysterious winner has walked away with the top prize of more than US$30 million.

As expected, the lottery has created a buzz on the island, with many trying to guess the identity of the winner. The lottery company is keeping mum.

Hours before the draw, a lottery stand decided to draw inspiration from Spanish Octopus Paul, with its own fortune teller.

Its oracle octopus predicted that the winner will be a male.

Several hours later, the Taiwan Lottery Company announced that a man in eastern Taitung county had won the big prize.

His identity is kept secret, but the company said based on its study of 1,400 winners, the mystery man is likely to have big earlobes.

"The latest winner also has an oval face, double-eyelids and a high nose," said Huang Chi Yi, GM of Taiwan Lottery Company.

Coincidentally, most winners are men age between 40 and 59, born in the Chinese Year of the Goat, and living in Taipei County.

More importantly, many of these winners are generous souls.

According to the Taiwan Lottery Company, in the past three years, winners have donated over US$45 million offering a great help to disadvantaged minority groups across the island. - CNA /ls
