SINGAPORE: Tokyo-based Singaporeans who miss local fare can look forward to sampling home-made delights in Royal Park Hotel, Japan between February 10 and 29.

As part of a joint Singapore food promotion event, Royal Plaza on Scotts Singapore will fly chefs over to Royal Park Hotel, Japan, where they will whip up delicacies such as Hainanese chicken rice, chilli or black pepper crab, laksa, and wok-fried cereal prawns with curry leaves and chilli padi.

This is the first time Royal Park Hotel, Japan is featuring Singaporean dishes.

Royal Plaza on Scotts executive chef Abraham Tan said: "This culinary exchange serves as a melting pot, which allows us to deepen friendships and cultivate a greater understanding of each other's culture.

"We are pleased to share some of the best bits of Singapore with our counterpart and their guests in Japan. We also wish to bring the taste of home to the Singaporeans who are living in Tokyo currently."

This is good news to 33-year-old Eddie Khoo, an IT consultant who has been based in Japan since 2008.

The Malaysian-born Mr Khoo, who spent 29 years in Singapore, said: "Chicken rice is arguably the best-known Singaporean dish in Japan, but everything else is either rare or suspicious.

"There are international cuisines available in Japan, but most are suited to the local taste, so everything tastes Japanese."

To add that touch of authenticity, the chefs will take with them sauces and condiments used in Singapore so that the Singapore flavours are best represented in Japan.

Singapore's local delights can be sampled throughout the joint Singapore Food Promotion in Royal Park Hotel, Japan, during the daily dinner buffet from 5.30pm to 9pm.

In May, fans of Japanese cuisine in Singapore can look forward to an authentic Japanese feast at Royal Plaza on Scotts, when two guest chefs from Royal Park Hotel, Japan will be flown here.
