SINGAPORE: IPTV subscriptions in Southeast Asia surged 91 per cent in the first quarter compared to a year ago.

According to data from Broadband Forum, there are now nearly four million lines of IPTV across Southeast Asia, and around seven million across Asia.

The Broadband Forum is the central body for next generation IP network specifications, with over 200 members around the world.

It says Asia is also leading the way in broadband growth.

Broadband lines in the world now top 429 million and the last quarter shows growth slightly higher than the previous three-month period.

Fast-growing countries include India, China, the Philippines, Vietnam and Australia.

DSL continues to be the most popular broadband access technology, though fibre grew by more than three million lines, reflecting a 12.4 per cent share of the market.
