LE BOURGET, France: The Paris Air Show ended on Friday but new trends have emerged.

As the commercial aviation industry struggles to find its feet, defence contracts look set to increase, and going green also seems to be the order of the day.

At the Paris Air Show, defence technology attracted much attention. And organisers say at next year's Singapore Airshow, 60 per cent of the innovations will be defence-related - up by 10 per cent from the last show.

Managing director, Singapore Airshow and Events, Jimmy Lau, said: "The defence spending in Asia Pacific last year crept up by five per cent which is nearing 300 billion dollars. And I think the business will continue to rise in that sector."

Also rising is the green issue in aviation. Many exhibits in Paris showcased green efforts like a helicopter where technology is being used to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.

And at the Singapore show next year, there will be a green pavilion - an area specially dedicated to environment-minded innovations.

Organisers are also hoping to bring the green pavilion to the Singapore Changi Airport as part of its educational programme to the travelling public.
