HOLLYWOOD : John Travolta will not be singing and dancing in a fat suit and dress again. The actor has revealed that he will not reprise his role as Edna Turnblad in an upcoming sequel to “Hairspray”.
“I think once is enough”, the 54-year-old told The Sunday Herald Sun. “I did it and I did it well but I’m not a big sequel guy.”
Travolta’s memorable performance as lead character Tracy Turnblad’s mother in the 2007 summer blockbuster was hailed by critics.
The sequel, which is currently in the works, is projected for a summer 2010 release.
Director Adam Shankman and producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will return for the sequel, but there have been no news on whether the rest of the original cast will be part of the film.
“Hairspray”, which starred Amanda Bynes, Michelle Pfeiffer, James Marsden, Nikki Blonsky and Zac Efron, is currently the fourth highest grossing musical film in US history, behind “Grease”, “Chicago”, and the recent “Mama Mia!”, raking in US$200 million at box offices worldwide.
