SINGAPORE - The world is in trouble and only a girl in uniform can save it.

That girl, can only be Jeon-Ji-Hyun.

The Korean actress Jeon who shot to fame with "The Sassy Girl" will be seen in "Blood: The Last Vampire", the latest English movie adapted from a popular Japanese anime film of the same name. Imagine 'Van Helsing' in a samurai setting.

It tells the story of Saya, a samurai vampire hunter played by Jeon who's headlining the movie under the name "Gianna Jun".

The origin of her new name has no acquaintance with spaghetti or pizza but rather has its roots in Korea.

"Actually in Korea, my friends call me "Ji-Ana" so when they say it faster, it just naturally becomes Gianna," she explained to Channel NewsAsia.

The action flick 'Blood' demanded Jeon to go through months of intense training and to brave the natural elements, which left her with injuries.

Ever the girl, Jeon said she would have turned down the role if she had known that it was so tiring.

Despite it all, she persevered. "I didn't want to give up something that I have already started. After months of training, I got more comfortable. I knew the film's a multi-national production so there would be challenges," she said.

The movie has created several milestones for Jeon.

It is her first action movie in a foreign language and for the first time, she is has an old skin - - 400 years old to be precise.

Acting as a centuries old vampire slayer might be a stumbling block for most young actress but it was a breeze for the 29-year-old.

"I'm not sure how much I resemble her (Saya) in real life. But when I put on the uniform and held the sword, I became Saya and I could identify with her," she said.

In real life though, Jeon won't be relying on any martial arts if finds herself in a tough spot.

"I would rather use my beauty to get out of trouble," the actress said with her usual confidence, happy to leave her on-screen persona where it rightly belongs. - CNA/fa
