SINGAPORE : MediaCorp actress Vivian Lai gave birth to baby daughter via Cesarean section on Wednesday morning.

She was admitted into hospital the night before and gave birth to her second daughter, Ariel, at around 9.40am on Wednesday. The newborn weighed around 2.9 kilograms.

Lai’s husband, Alan Ong, revealed in an interview that the foetus was in an unfavourable position and that the doctor had recommended that she have a Cesarean delivery.

He added that during a check up four weeks ago, the foetus position was normal. But it was discovered later that the foetus was in a breech position, where the baby’s buttocks or legs are at the bottom of the womb, hence the need for a Cesarean section.

Once a decision was made to proceed with the Cesarean delivery, the couple consulted a Feng Shui master for an auspicious delivery date and time.

This is Lai’s first Cesarean delivery and Ong was naturally worried about how his wife was coping.

Lai, 33, was accompanied by Ong, four-year-old daughter Vera, colleagues Pan Ling Ling, Jing Yin Ji and actor, Mark Lee’s wife who were all present to provide encouragement and support.
