SEOUL : Actress Lee Young-ae, best known for her lead role in the hit Korean television drama "Jewel in the Palace", married a 55-year-old businessman in the United States on Monday.
Lee, 38, announced via her representative on Tuesday that the wedding took place in the United States and the groom was only identified as Jeong, a Korean-American, reported The Korea Times.
Jeong's detailed identity and likeness has been kept under wraps to protect the newly-wed's privacy.
The couple have known each other for around 10 years and he is a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago working in the IT industry. The event was a low key ceremony attended only by family members of both parties.
Lee's representative said the actress had wanted to announce her marriage at a press conference, however her family had wanted a simple and quiet wedding instead.
She added that Lee will live in the United States after marriage but would not rule out the possibility of returning to Asia to continue her acting career if the right opportunity came along.
When news of Lee’s marriage broke, fans and media alike were surprised at how Lee had managed to keep the romance a secret for so long.
One of the most popular Korean actresses in Asia, Lee is also known for her critically acclaimed role in the Park Chan-wook film “Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.” She was also appointed a UNICEF goodwill ambassador in 2004.
