HONG KONG : Hong Kong star Andy Lau has admitted to signing a marriage certificate with former girlfriend, Taiwanese actress Yu Ke-Xin, 24 years ago, when the pair were dating.
Yu had reportedly revealed to the Taiwanese media on Tuesday that she and the Heavenly King had signed the certificate but the marriage did not materialise because a third party, Lau's now wife Carol Chu, had come into the picture.
When asked if this was true, Lau replied, "Yes."
Reporters then probed further by asking the singer-actor if he regretted his decision, Lau simply said, "I do not want to discuss it."
This latest disclosure comes after Lau admitted to marrying 43-year-old Chu, a former Malaysian beauty queen, in Las Vegas in June last year, after years of denial.
Yu’s mother revealed to the Taiwanese media that she was one of the witnesses present when Lau and Yu signed the certificate on December 30, 1985, "The fact is Lau and her did sign the wedding certificate then. The marriage certificate provided a sense of security for both of them."
She added that they pair did not register their marriage nor hold a wedding banquet.
Describing Lau and Yu’s past relationship, she said, “They had a good relationship in the past and had wanted to marry. However, due to external conflicts and frequent quarrels, the marriage did not materialise. The marriage certificate provided a sense of security then and has remained a keepsake.”
Lau has come under fire lately by the media for not being truthful to his fans, prompting them to label him “The Lying Heavenly King”. The 47-year-old explained that he and Chu had wanted a child via artificial insemination and had to be married in order to do so.
When the media asked Yu about how she felt about Lau and his recent revelations, Mrs Yu responded that her daughter “had no opinions regarding them and will not respond”.
