HONG KONG : Hong Kong actress Charmaine Sheh has finally admitted to dating actor Kevin Cheng but said that things did not work out for them.

The pair who have collaborated on numerous drama serials such as “Forensic Heroes II” and “Point of No Return”, have denied romance rumours despite being photographed together by the paparazzi on numerous occasions.

In an interview with Hong Kong’s Next Magazine, the 34-year-old said, “Before each relationship, both parties have to understand and communicate with each other. I admit that Kevin and I were at that stage but it did not bear fruit.”

On the reason why, Sheh explained, “Perhaps it was due to a big difference in our personalities, it would be more suitable for us to be friends.” She added that conflicting work schedules caused them to meet infrequently.

She has maintained that she was not the third party between Cheng and his former girlfriend of five years, actress Niki Chow, two years ago.

Amid the breakup news, there is speculation that Sheh dumped Cheng for a 60-year-old billionaire estimated to be worth HK$5 billion (S$1 billion).

According to a close friend of Sheh, the actress was drawn to the billionaire who is generous, attentive and loving towards her.

In terms of earning power, Cheng was clearly no match for him.

“Charmaine said that after years of hard work filming, she can finally rest and decided to leave Kevin,” said Sheh’s friend.

Sheh currently declares herself as single and has not confirmed nor denied the rumours.
