HONG KONG : Actress Michelle Reis has decided to undergo artificial insemination in a bid to keep her business tycoon husband Julian Hui, said Hong Kong media reports.

The 39-year-old reportedly promised her mother-in-law that once she finishes her current work obligations, she plans to have a baby by no later than 2010, giving the Hui family their very first grandchild.

The couple who have been married for almost 11 months, have yet to have any children, prompting rumours that Reis is infertile. With Hui’s mother longing for a grandson causing additional tension, the pressure has been on for the former beauty queen to have a baby as soon as possible.

Afraid that her husband might take on a mistress to bear his offspring and in a bid to maintain her status within the Hui family, Reis has decided to become a mother.

An insider disclosed that although Hui is devoted to Reis, if she was unable to get pregnant, there is nothing to stop him from seeking a child with another woman.

“Even if Michelle did not want children, she has little choice now if she wants to salvage her marriage.”

With Reis’ biological clock ticking away and after discussions with her doctors, Reis has been advised to proceed with the artificial insemination procedure in America as soon as possible in order to ensure a smooth pregnancy.

Besides having more advanced artificial insemination technology, having the procedure done overseas will enable Reis to recuperate fully in peace without being under the watchful eye of the paparazzi.
