NEW YORK — Al Gore has released a follow-up to 2006 best-seller "An Inconvenient Truth," the former US vice president's rallying cry against global warming, a statement said Wednesday.

Gore, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007 following the book and movie versions of "An Inconvenient Truth," aims to offer clear strategies to tackle climate change in "Our Choice: A Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis."

"It offers solutions that we can -- and must -- begin to implement today," Gore said in a statement released by publishers Rodale Books.

Since the success of "An Inconvenient Truth", which also won an Academy Award for best documentary, Gore has organized a series of "solutions summits" aimed at bringing experts together to discuss climate change.

His latest book is the result of ideas offered by participants in the summits, which the statement said had "made it possible to construct a fresh and new approach not seen before."

"Despite the many challenges to solving the climate crisis, there is hope, and the opportunities are everywhere -- especially in the form of increasingly powerful technological tools," Gore said.

"Renewable sources of energy -- if developed -- could completely replace CO2-rich fossil fuels, and new technologies can allow us to move forward with unprecedented scale and speed to avert the worst impacts and set the stage for successful recovery."

Gore's book analyses the pros and cons of developing different sources of alternative energy such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass and nuclear power. - AFP/ra
