SINGAPORE - Talk about moving up fast in Hollywood.
Homegrown actor Ng Chin Han has now landed a role in Gus Van Sant's next movie.
The 39-year-old, who can be currently seen on the big-screen for his sizeable role as a Tibetan in Roland Emmerich's doomsday flick "2012", will play a doctor in the coming-of-age drama by the Oscar-nominated and Palme d'Or-winning director of "Milk", "Drugstore Cowboy" and "Good Will Hunting".
The movie was formerly known as Restless and is now tentatively called "The Untitled Gus Van Sant Movie".
This officially makes Ng the only Singaporean who can (and will) win a Hollywood name-drop game. After all, with "2012" and his other blockbuster movie, "The Dark Knight", Ng can now boast of having worked with actors Morgan Freeman, Christian Bale, Aaron Eckhart, Gary Oldman, John Cusack, as well as directors Emmerich and Christopher Nolan.
Van Sant's movie will be about a teenage boy and girl who share a pre-occupation with mortality. Ng will be playing the part of Dr Sewall, who treats the girl, played by Mia Wasikowska. Wasikowska plays the titular role in Tim Burton's upcoming "Alice in Wonderland".
With the star-powered production team made up of Ron Howard, Brian Grazer and Bryce Dallas Howard behind the film, and Hollywood stalwarts Dennis Hopper's son Henry as the male lead and Sissy Spacek's daughter Schuyler Fisk also on board, you can say Ng has more than arrived in Hollywood. Just don't play six degrees of separation with him. - TODAY/ar
