HONG KONG: Hong Kong veteran actor Chan Hung Lit passed away on Tuesday after complaining of chest pains on the set of TVB drama “Off Pedder”. He was 66.
The "Gem of Life" actor lost consciousness and was immediately rushed to the hospital. He was pronounced dead at 7.11 pm local time.
The Shanghai-born Chan leaves behind his second wife and their two children.
Chan’s sudden death overshadowed the television station’s Long Service Award presentation ceremony on Tuesday night. The mood turned solemn after fellow actors, upon hearing news of his passing, mourned the loss of a talented actor and a good colleague.
Ironically, Chan was working on “Off Pedder” in which he plays the role of a workaholic boss who will fight till his last breath for his company, when he collapsed.
At around 4 pm on Tuesday, Chan and fellow actor Stephen Au, who plays his on-screen son, were making their way to the wardrobe unit when he was suddenly hit with chest pains.
Au immediately informed producers and subsequently called for an ambulance. Meanwhile, security guards who arrived on the scene administered CPR to the actor. Chan was later taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital but could not be revived and was pronounced dead at 7.11 pm.
As Chan’s family is based in Taiwan, the actor’s sister who is living in Hong Kong, was notified and told to rush down to the hospital.
