TOKYO : The arrest and trial of former Japanese pop star Noriko Sakai will be made into a movie.
Sakai, 38, had pleaded guilty to possessing and using unidentified illegal stimulants and was handed a suspended jail term of 18 months for illegal drug use earlier this month.
The story was the biggest celebrity scandal in years, attracting thousands of fans and onlookers to the Tokyo District Court where the trial took place.
The singer-actress was arrested on August 8, a week after her surfer-husband Yuichi Takaso, 41, was taken into custody after police caught him with drugs in Tokyo's Shibuya entertainment district.
Sakai hopes to start life afresh and to quit stimulant drugs completely ad well as divorce her husband.
After the trial, she was reported to have enrolled at a university where she will study to become a social worker.
