LONDON - Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has been arrested over claims he assaulted his Russian girlfriend, British police said on Thursday.
The 62-year-old, who was divorced by his wife Jo last month on the grounds of his adultery, was arrested in Claygate, southwest of London, near where he has a home, Surrey Police said.
Media reports say he was alleged to have assaulted his girlfriend, cocktail waitress Ekaterina Ivanova.
"We can confirm that a 62-year-old man from Esher was arrested last night on suspicion of assault in connection with a domestic incident in Claygate High Street," said a Surrey Police spokesman.
"He has this afternoon been released on bail until a date in January pending further inquiries."
A spokesman for the rocker said: "I can confirm that there was an incident last night and that Ronnie Wood was arrested. He has since been released on police bail."
The arrest came three months after police were called to the house the Stones star shares with his girlfriend in September, after a row in which it was claimed she threatened to kill herself.
In July last year Wood -- who joined the Rolling Stones in 1976, and plays alongside Mick Jagger, fellow guitarist Keith Richards and drummer Charlie Watts -- checked into rehab to be treated for long-term alcohol addiction.
Wood and his former model wife Jo, 54, split last year after the former Faces star began a relationship with Ivanova, who is in her early 20s.
The couple were married in January 1985, and have a son and a daughter together.
The person with whom Wood committed adultery was not named in the divorce papers made public last month, when the couple were granted a decree nisi, the last stage before a decree absolute.
In the papers, Jo Wood was asked: "State briefly your reasons for saying that the respondent has committed the adultery alleged." She answered that her husband "has admitted it to me".
She was also asked: "On what date did it first become known to you that the respondent had committed the adultery alleged?"
She replied: "Shortly before our separation."
Asked if she found it intolerable to live with him, she stated: "Yes." - AFP/ar
