TAIPEI: Taiwanese singer-actress Annie Yi found her home broken into when she returned to Taiwan on February 11 after being away for a month.
Yi's residence, an apartment on the seventh floor of an old apartment building in Taipei, appeared to have been searched.
When Yi checked for any missing items, she discovered that her notebook computer was gone. She did not lose anything else. Her cash, jewellery and even the luxury bag which contained her notebook computer remained intact.
"I am worried that the data will be misused by others," said Yi.
Police have discovered shoeprints and glove prints all over the emergency stair case outside her apartment and also found the nearby bathroom ventilation window of her apartment forced open.
They suspect the burglar climbed the stairs and gained entry through the ventilation window.
The police have also stated the crime was not a simple burglary as no valuables were stolen except for the notebook computer.
Many believe this burglary might have been the work of paparazzi who are looking to find details on Yi's private life by going through her notebook computer.
Yi had been embroiled in controversy since she was photographed holding hands with Taiwanese star Victor Huang, 38, while shooting the drama series "Great Porcelain Merchant" in Beijing in October 2008.
Her subsequent high-profile divorce from then husband, popular Taiwanese singer-host Harlem Yu, and their awkward relationship afterward has continued to attract media attention till today.
