SINGAPORE: Singapore veteran thespian Lee Weng Kee, who died battling pneumonia in hospital on February 10, at the age of 55, was remembered at a memorial service on Monday night at the Arts House Chambers.
During the uplifting memorial service, Lee's closest colleagues and friends such as actresses Catherine Sng and Christina Sergeant took turns to share their fond memories of the late thespian. Actors Darius Tan and Pamela Oei also took to the stage to sing a song each in memory of the late actor.
Founder and CEO of talent management company Fly Entertainment, Irene Ang, was present as well to remember Lee, a friend and an artiste who had been represented by the company for almost eight years.
The service was concluded by a simple ceremony where each guest placed a flower in the provided pots to mark Lee's passing. The flowers will then be brought to the columbarium where Lee's cremated remains are interred, at a later date.
The event was organised by the Association of Singapore Actors of which Lee was an active member. Guests were told in their invitations to dress in bright colours as a nod to Lee's positive outlook on life.
Despite the organiser's best efforts to try and keep the event from becoming too sombre, many of the guests fought back tears, even as they smiled when they heard humourous anecdotes about Lee.
"At least he [Lee] is happy now, he doesn't have to suffer anymore," said Lee's close friend Catherine Sng.
In his career that spanned more than two decades, Lee had appeared in numerous stage productions such as the critically acclaimed "Ah Kong's Birthday Party" and "Army Daze".
His last role was in Dennis Chew's "The Patient", a part of Action Theatre's double-bill "Shock and Shiok!" in October last year.
Lee played Jonathan Tan, an old man who was unwell and convinced that he was being hunted by vicious ghosts.
Lee was single at the time of his passing.
