SINGAPORE : MediaCorp honoured the best of its radio personalities and creative talents in a night of glitz, glamour and entertainment at the 7th Singapore Radio Awards on Wednesday evening.

The people who rule the airwaves from MediaCorp's stable of 12 stations came in their evening best - to celebrate their work and achievements in one of the most anticipated events in the broadcasting industry.

A total of 24 awards were presented. Three new categories - Best Radio Show, Best Dressed Radio Personality and Best Radio Personality Blog - were introduced this year.

987 FM's Rosalyn Lee was the night's big winner - for the best blog. She said: "When I saw the nominee list flash by, I knew I wanted to win, I don't think I can accept anything less, simply because I put in a lot of effort into my blog.

"I know this would sound really cocky, but I have seen my competitors - they purely use it as showblogs. I'm going to continue using it as a platform to perhaps influence people, to inspire people, and basically just seek therapy for myself."

Another big - and repeat - winner was Class 95FM's Glenn Ong. He was voted English Radio Personality of the Year - Media's Choice - for the third time.

He said: "I just feel it's an avenue for me to just be myself on radio, and I think I'm quite blessed that I've been quite well-received in that - not without controversy, but I enjoy sharing my life with my listeners.

"Like I always say, not all radio deejays tend to do that. I think all my listeners know me inside out because I tell them everything."

And a special winner was Warna 94.2FM's Ibrahim Jamil. His staying power and passion for radio earned him the award for Lifetime Achievement.

He said: "I consider this as a symbol of recognition after working here for 37 years. I have done so many things. What made me survived for 37 years in broadcasting is because (I) like current affairs, culture, language, literature and also music.

"So, I think these elements are very important in broadcasting. You must have these element, otherwise you cannot survive for so long in broadcasting."

And from the 938 "Live" pool of presenters, the award for Most Popular Radio Personality went to Stanley Leong.

All that action at the MediaCorp TV Theatre was shown "live" for the first time on webcast.

The Guest-of-Honour was Mr Lui Tuck Yew, Acting Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts.
