SEOUL: Korean actor Jang Dong Gun tied the knot with actress Ko So Young in a highly anticipated wedding celebration on Sunday at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul, said Korean media.
Jang, 38, had been good friends with Ko, 37, ever since they played lovers on the 1998 film "Love Wind Love Song", but the pair only started dating a little over two years ago.
Ko is currently four months pregnant with Jang's child and is expected to deliver in November.
About 500 guests, including Korean A-listers such as actors Lee Byung Hun, Song Seung Hun, actress Ha Ji Won and superstar singer Rain, attended the ceremony, which is estimated to have cost almost 1 billion won (S$1.2 million).
The US ambassador to Korea, Kathleen Stephens, also turned up at the lavish event that was emceed by Jang's close friend, veteran actor Park Joong-hoon.
After the wedding ceremony, Jang shared his thoughts on their union when the couple met the press at a dais outside the wedding hall.
"Thank you everyone, even though your continual attention gave me a little pressure, now my heart is filled with gratitude. We will raise our child well, even though we still don't know if it is a boy or a girl. I hope it will be a daughter that resembles So Young," said Jang, dressed in a black Tom Ford tuxedo.
"We will live happily with your blessings," said Ko, who wore a white Oscar de la Renta gown for the big day.
She had earlier described Jang's marriage proposal as "nothing especially romantic" but praised him for being a dedicated family man in an interview with a fashion magazine.
The couple flew off to Bali, Indonesia, for their four-day second honeymoon after spending the night at the hotel's presidential suite.
