SINGAPORE: Singapore actress Belinda Lee admitted that she had accepted her boyfriend's marriage proposal after being spotted sporting a diamond ring on her ring finger during her visit to HCA Hospice Care on Monday, reported xinmsn.com.
Lee, who was visiting the elderly at the hospice as part of a Channel U social responsibility initiative, said her boyfriend of four and a half years, a hotel designer known only as Mr Lee, proposed to her the night before they returned from their vacation together in Hong Kong in April.
The actress had rejected his proposal in the past but this time, she took ten minutes to consider before finally saying yes. "If I still don't agree, he probably wouldn't want to marry me anymore," Lee joked.
She also described how scared she felt when her boyfriend proposed.
"Besides fear, I felt more fear, there is really no other word I could substitute for 'fear'," the actress told reporters.
"I always had a fear of marriage as some of my friends ended up with broken marriages. I don't believe in divorce, marriage should be for a lifetime, a promise that you must keep, so I was quite shaken at that time ... I was afraid of marrying the wrong guy as saying yes is a kind of promise, a beautiful promise."
It actually took one special line from Mr Lee to tip the scales in his favour and elicit a nod from his wife-to-be.
"He said 'I want to continue loving you, doting on you'," revealed Lee.
The pair, who met through a mutual friend, then became emotional and the tears flowed.
Lee said that they will most likely hold their wedding celebrations in Singapore next year.
The guest list is expected to be short - only family members along with some of her closest friends will be invited.
After the wedding, she hopes to go on a month-long honeymoon with her beloved.
When asked if she would return to showbiz after getting hitched, Lee did not give a clear answer, only saying that her husband-to-be had expressed a desire for her to lead a life without any hardship.
