SINGAPORE: Singapore actor Zheng Ge Ping received a major blow on the eve of his birthday this year.
The father of two suffered head injuries while shooting his new drama serial "Unriddle" when an action sequence went awry last month, reported The Straits Times.
Zheng, who plays a triad boss in the series, suffered a nasty elbow to his head near his right ear when a stuntman accidently struck the actor with his elbow instead of his forearm, as was the norm when shooting such action sequences.
The 46-year-old said he endured a throbbing pain he felt in his head for two weeks before finally seeing a doctor as he did not want to upset his busy acting schedule to seek treatment.
"I am used to getting injured on the set. I thought the pain would go away after two days," he said.
But when the painkillers and rest prescribed by the doctor still did not alleviate his condition, he decided to undergo acupuncture treatment.
"I got a shock when blood started flowing down my neck after the doctor inserted the needles into my head," Zheng told reporters.
He was later told by the doctor who administered the acupuncture treatment that he would have suffered a stroke, had he not removed the bloodclots via acupuncture.
Much to his relief, subsequent X-rays of his head also showed that he had "no cracked bones".
Zheng said he is currently waiting to undergo a CT and MRI scan of his head to confirm there are no other blood clots present "for peace of mind".
Zheng is best known for his supporting roles in Mandarin dramas like "Shining Star", before ascending to leading man status after appearing in the popular drama "Like Father, Like Daughter" in 2007.
