SINGAPORE: Taiwan superstar Jay Chou, 31, revealed during a recent press conference in Singapore that he may retire from showbiz in four years if his albums no longer sell, reported Chinese media.

"When I turn 35, and sales decline, I will call it quits. There is no reason to waste my life in the entertainment industry. I don't dare to hope that young people would treat an 'uncle' as an idol. I am fine with that," said Chou.

The singer also declared that he has a very strong sense of obligation to his friends and would help them out with their careers in any way he could, though sometimes there may be unintended consequences.

"Even though that may be the case, it doesn't mean I would stop helping them. I don't care what other people say and will do it as long as it makes me happy," he said.

Does that mean he would favour his friends over his girlfriend?

"Well, if I had a girlfriend, my friends would shift down and become my No. 2 priority," said Chou after a short pause. "I suppose that makes me a pretty good lover!"

The self-professed "good lover" went on to explain that he would make time for his girlfriend no matter how busy he was, and would "try to do everything a normal couple would do, like shopping, catching movies ... and avoid letting her feel I am a star".

Chou said that he would definitely go public if he was seeing someone, though he would choose the most 'opportune' time to do so.

"I will [go public]! I will reveal who is my bride on the day of my wedding. That would be cool!" he said.

The singer, who plays Kato in the upcoming movie adaption of "The Green Hornet", also disclosed some other nuggets of information about himself during the press conference.

These include his relief that the inter-company conflicts which kept his old friends Jolin Tsai and Show Luo from him were resolved, and the fact that he habitually dresses sans underwear.

"It's so comfortable!" said Chou, before adding that he usually wears basketball shorts and only ever puts on underwear during his concerts.

The superstar has held 98 concerts in his 10-year career.

"I am really not worried about exposing myself because the basketball shorts are so long," said Chou earnestly. "My mum doesn't mind either because that means she doesn't have to help me wash them."
