HONG KONG: Hong Kong actress Carina Lau has become linked to a Chinese property magnate Jing Baifu, after photos of the pair surfaced recently in entertainment magazines, said Chinese media.
In one of the photos, Lau was resting her chin on Jing's shoulder while the 39-year-old billionaire had his hand on her thigh, sparking rumours that Lau, 44, and Jing, who is reportedly a married man, were more than friends.
The actress was even reported to have eschewed spending time with husband, Hong Kong actor Tony Leung on their second wedding anniversary on July 21, to be with Jing in Beijing.
The next day, when Leung was asked if he knew where Lau was, he simply said that he was "unclear". When reporters confronted him with the photo, he refused to comment and only said: "I do not know who he is."
It is only on Monday that Leung finally commented on the photo and said through his manager: "This is normal. It is just normal social interaction. I trust Ms Lau."
Lau's manager in China, on the other hand, gave a more trite response on Tuesday.
"Although we have stated many times over this past year that the rumours are false, we still could not prevent them from spreading. We really can't be bothered anymore," Lau's manager told Chinese media.
"Tony has already said they (Lau and Jing) are just friends. What else is there to explain?"
Lau had been linked to tycoons such as Terry Gou, Julian Hui and Joseph Lau, prior to her marriage to Leung in 2008.
