SINGAPORE : Generation Y-ers may not be familiar with the band Anzen Chitai, but the Japanese soft-rock band was legendary in the late 1980s and 1990s. And they are throwing a ‘live’ gig here in Singapore next month for the first time.

Singapore came under the spell of J-pop music between the late 1990s and early 2000s, but concerts by J-pop acts here are far and few.

The last gig the island-state saw was Misia's Discotheque Asia tour two years ago, and tracking further back, there was Kazumasa Oda's solo concert in 2003 and J-pop duo Chage & Aska in 2001.

Now, we'll have one more band to add to the list.

Formed in 1973 in Asahikawa, Hokkaido, Anzen Chitai carved their name in the Japanese music scene as one of the most famous rock bands in the 1980s.

Despite various hiatus over the past 27 years, it remains strong as one of the most respected and successful 1980s Japanese rock bands in music history.

Reuniting again this year, Anzen Chitai will be embarking on an Asian tour with stops in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Seoul and Singapore.

Anzen Chitai has long enjoyed popularity throughout Asia, and count A-list singers like Jacky Cheung and Leon Lai as fans. Both Hong Kong stars have covered numerous of their chart-toppers including the very popular “Ikanaide”, “Yume No Tsuzuki” and “Koi no Yukan”.

And music lovers will get a taste of true-blue Japanese ballads and rock music 'live' at the Singapore Indoor Stadium at their long-awaited debut concert on October 24. - CNA /ls

Anzen Chitai Asia Tour 2010 (Singapore) will be held on 24 October 2010, 8pm at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Tickets priced at $178, $148, $118 and $88 are available at Sistic.
