TAIWAN : Singapore pop princess Stefanie Sun is safe and on her way back to Taiwan, where she is based.

Her recording company EMI Music clarified that contrary to Tuesday reports, she had not been robbed at gunpoint in the Egyptian capital of Cairo where she had been shooting a music video with a 22-member production crew.

It said a payment dispute turned ugly after the local tour guide engaged by the company demanded more money and allegedly threatened them.

Bodyguards were sent to their hotel after the group reported the incident to their headquarters and the Singapore embassy in Cairo.

"Yanzi was quite shocked when the incident happened but after help from the Singapore embassy officials in Cairo, she is a lot calmer now," said Jacky Ann, director of Artist Management & Overseas Marketing, EMI Music Taiwan.

"We had a pretty serious dispute with our local guide, and the local company. Their forceful attitude and verbal threats were quite frightening. So even though the music video has not finished, we decided to abandon it and come back," said Sam Chen, MD of EMI Music Taiwan. - CNA /ls
