Stefanie Sun cancels Cairo video shoot after tour guide tiff

Stefanie Sun was whisked away from a video shoot in Cairo on Sunday after an Egyptian man claiming to be armed threatened the singer, her entourage and a video crew.

In a teleconference on Tuesday night, managing director Chen Zeshan of Sun's label EMI Taiwan said the partner of a coordinator hired to facilitate the shoot had made the threats over cancelled travel plans after charging about US$10,000 ($15,300) for his services.

"We had planned to travel from Cairo to Alexandria," he said. "But we changed our minds since we couldn't trust the duo and most of the six-hour journey was through the desert."

After Sun phoned her father in Singapore, arrangements were made for the Singapore Embassy in Cairo to intervene.

"The local guide had a 180-degree change in attitude when he saw the consular officers," Chen said.

Sun and the Singapore team were removed unharmed from the area and flew back to Taipei on Tuesday.
