LOS ANGELES: Sean Connery announced Thursday he would not take part in the fourth instalment of the "Indiana Jones" adventure films, saying he would rather enjoy his retirement.
In a statement on the film's official website, Connery, 76, said he had thought "long and hard" about reprising his role as Professor Henry Jones from 1989's "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade."
"If anything could have pulled me out of retirement it would have been an Indiana Jones film," he said of the series directed by Steven Spielberg, co-written by George Lucas, and starring Harrison Ford as the title character.
"I love working with Steven and George, and it goes without saying that it is an honor to have Harrison as my son. But in the end, retirement is just too damned much fun."
Connery, whose rocketed to global fame as the original James Bond in the first five 007 films, offered some advice to Ford, who at 65 is taking on the role of the action-archaeologist one more time: "Demand that the critters be digital, the cliffs be low, and for goodness sake keep that whip by your side at all times in case you need to escape from the stunt coordinator!" - AFP/sh
