LOS ANGELES - "Scary Spice" Melanie Brown announced Wednesday that she filed a paternity suit against US actor Eddie Murphy, claiming he is the father of her four-month-old daughter Angel.
Brown, 32, a member of the British pop group Spice Girls, said that Angel Iris Murphy Brown, born in April, "is my baby and Eddie's."
The girl "will always know that she was planned and wanted by both of us, but I want her to know that she has two parents who desire to be responsible for her during her life and who love her so much that they want to be a part of it," Brown told a Los Angeles press conference announcing the suit.
Brown's high-profile attorney, Gloria Allred, said a paternity test proves that Murphy, 46, is the father. She said Brown was also seeking child support from Murphy.
"We've had communication with his attorney, and now we're moving forward," said Allred.
When contacted by AFP, Murphy spokesman Arnold Robinson simply said: "We do not comment on Mr. Murphy's personal life."
Brown, who dated Murphy in 2006, said she had planned her pregnancy with Murphy, the star of "Dreamgirls," "Beverly Hills Cop" and "Shrek." Brown is divorced and has an eight year-old girl.
In 2005 Murphy divorced Nicole Mitchell Murphy, the mother of his five children. He is currently engaged to producer Tracey Edmonds, according to US media reports.
In late June, the Spice Girls announced they are getting back together for a world tour in December and January.
